    Sign up for In The Box Weekly (one short inspiration email, every Friday) and to be notified when Drop #1 is ready.

  2. Help shape the first bundle

    After signup, you'll get a short survey asking what kind of music you make, what DAW you use, what plugins inspire you most, and what price would feel like an easy yes. It also asks if you'd like to be featured in an upcoming issue of In The Box Weekly, talking about your own musical inspirations.

  3. The first drop opens for payment

    Once the bundle is finalized, the waitlist gets first access.

  4. The drop releases when 100 spots are filled

    Drop #1 only releases once the first 100 paid spots are filled. That makes it possible to secure better bundle pricing and keep the first drop affordable.

  5. You open the bundle and make something

    You'll get the plugin licenses, compatibility details, and a short creative guide with ideas for actually using the tools.

05 / FROM A MUSICIAN

Why I'm building this

I'm a musician and composer. I make mostly neoclassical music, in the orbit of artists like Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, and Max Richter. I've played piano since I was five, and these days my pieces are usually piano, a synthesizer, and strings. Nearly everything I record is played live, in one take, straight into a DAW full of virtual instruments and in-the-box effects.

Here's what I kept noticing: when I played the same piano sounds for the hundredth time, the music went stale. But the moment I loaded an instrument or effect I'd never touched, new songs fell out almost immediately.

So I went looking for a regular source of that feeling, and it didn't exist. Subscription libraries overwhelmed me; I tried one, used a fraction of it, and unsubscribed feeling like I was wasting money. Buying plugins one at a time gets expensive, and the research eats the hours I'd rather spend playing. And I'd seen the drop model work in other gear worlds, like mechanical keyboards and hi-fi audio, where a small curated release is something people genuinely look forward to. Music tools never got that.

What I want is simpler:

A small curated bundle.
Built around a creative theme.
Affordable enough to try.
Focused enough to actually use.

Is this a subscription?

Not at first.

In The Box Drops will launch as limited drops. You can join the waitlist and decide whether each drop is right for you.

A subscription option may come later, but the first goal is to validate the idea with musicians who want curated plugin discovery.

Do I get to keep the plugins?

That is the goal.

In The Box Drops is being designed around plugins and tools that customers can keep, subject to the license terms of the included plugin makers. Final license details will be clearly explained before each drop opens.

Will everyone get the same plugins?

Yes.

Each drop is curated as one shared bundle. The surprise is the reveal, not random odds between customers.

Why are the plugins secret?

Because part of the experience is discovery.

The theme, general categories, compatibility, and expected price will be described before the drop opens, but the exact plugin list will be revealed when the drop goes live.

What happens if I already own one of the plugins?

This is one of the details being worked through before the first paid drop.

The goal is to avoid obvious repeats and curate tools that many musicians may not already own. If replacement options or credits are available for a specific drop, they will be explained before purchase.

What DAWs will this work with?

Each drop will clearly list supported formats before purchase, such as VST3, AU, AAX, macOS, and Windows compatibility.

The goal is to support the most common DAW workflows, including Logic Pro, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Bitwig Studio, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, and Pro Tools where possible.

How much will it cost?

The first drop is expected to land around $29-$49 USD, depending on the final plugin lineup and licensing costs.
